Evidence-informed decision making
Evidence-informed infrastructure decision making is essential to maximise accessibility and quality of infrastructure services.
Note: Data are based on the practices in the transport sector. The OECD average values do not include data for Canada and the Slovak Republic. The Slovak Republic does not have complete data for this indicator. For Canada, only the sub-pillars applicable at the federal level are shown.
Why is this important?
A strategic approach to the use of evidence in infrastructure decision making helps better understand and anticipate infrastructure trends and needs, in turn improving long-term planning for infrastructure investments and development. This entails putting in place systems that ensure a systematic collection, storage and management of relevant data over the entire infrastructure life cycle and at the right national or subnational scale. Such an approach is important for monitoring and improving the quality of infrastructure services, thus strengthening resilience of the asset. It can also help improve accountability and transparency throughout the infrastructure life cycle.
